Saw it and loved it. I love the idea of the box. This is what I am talking about. Now I get to try to figure out what is inside the box. I have the tree already in my fanon. The Tree of Harmony is where Earthia, daughter of Nature and wife of Silverdark was buried after the Fall. Deathstar planted a seed he had infused with the attributes of the fallen Guardians as part of the plan to heal Sunstar. The Box was unexpected. What could be inside of it?
Here is my guess. A big evil that knows no real weakness is coming and inside the box is the only thing that can hurt the evil. It is the Rainbow of Light, believed lost during the Fall.

I really hope that what's inside the box is awesome, no matter what it is. I'm going to try to form no expectations on that because I don't want to hype it up too much. That just leads to unnecessary disappointment if it isn't whatever I can theorize. If All I know is that it's something new to help protect Equestria from danger in the Elements of Harmony's place. I gotta say, if the Elements stay gone (which they probably willl, since this show has always been good about keeping progressions in place), I'm gonna miss 'em.
I also love that all the data presented about Equestria ALL flies directly against most of the fanon made about the world's history. I love that. It shows that the fans ARE NOT the bosses around here.

I'm gonna put the tree in season 5 as part of stopping ponyland from disappearing yet again.

That was just a guess. They may surprise us with the box by having something evil inside of it instead of good. I like this, something that ties the season together. I loved Discord in these two episodes. I hope we see some more of him. My fanon is ever changing, and so far I have been able to work in the canon.
The only part of the canon that gave me some trouble was the Hearth's warming episode with the three tribes. I have worked it out. The very first settlement was in a place called Blue Manor. It is where Mage recreated the Sun and Moon from the remains of the original Sun and the Flow. He gave control to Celestia and Luna before dying during the first winter. his wife, Andromeda became ill and died two weeks after he did, sending their adopted son onto the path that would lead to him becoming Sombra. The Crystal Empire was the second settlement. Sombra was believed destroyed along with the empire, which lead to the three tribes going their own way. This lead to the long winter which attracted Discord. He struck after the fire of friendship was formed, creating a world of chaos. This lead to Twilight's ancestor, Twilight Star, to seek out Celestia and Luna. They had been cast out after what they did to stop Sombra and forced to give up control of the Sun and Moon. They vowed to stop Discord which they did after finding the Tree of Harmony. All that leads to modern Equestria.
I loved how we got more back story.

A whole metric ton of it at that! I can I was honestly not expecting to get such huge portions of it dumped on us like this. It's nice to know that after three seasons worth of fans begging to know more about Equestria that it seems the creators are ready to start delving more into it.

I saw a funny line about the episode's moral being "Keep taking drugs until you get the answers you want."
I must admit, when I think about it, Discord's presence really was for fanservice like some have said. His one scene that has any impact on the story was blatantly set up and really served his character more than anything. Still, I liked the scene and handling of his character. Still, I'm glad they did what they did with his character.

I got to see Episodes 1 and 2. While I’m holding back judgment (can’t really judge a season on the first two episodes) There are things which I feel could have done with more explaining or more in-depth development. First there’s Twilight as an alicorn: From other shows that have a main character start to dought their new abilities or position which could hint to them stepping down from that position (example Jack O’Neil from Stargate SG-1, he was a General, retired, then came back as leader of SG-1 again) Could be a hint that Twilight may step down as a Princess. Also the convenient potion that Zecora had. It makes me wonder if all these things are known or found then WHY are they not at the ready incase things like this happen? Why only at that point in time are they mentioned or used? Second the group enter the forest and tell Twilight her place is elsewhere, this sort of situation could have been done better. True Twilight was technically the ruler of Equestria but the plot put her in the situation of “Do I stay and rule or do I go and risk not coming back” When the others started to argue it felt like there was more disharmony about.
Thirdly the flash backs. I got the idea that one way to know the future is to understand the past. It did give us an idea of how Luna became Nightmare Moon, but yet did nothing to explain WHY she became corrupted, that is still under speculation. Also, in the second flashback when Luna and Celestia used the Elements on Discord they used them together, yet in the first flash back they were used by Celestia alone. I know this could have been a simple throw away plot but it was part of the story and could of used some more depth.
Lastly, the new “plot device” box. So far everything has been linked to the number 6. The mane 6, the 6 Elements and now the 6 keys. I had a feeling that when Twilight and the others had to give up the Elements of Harmony to restore Equestria there would be a new plot device. I believe now that throughout the season there will be more lessons learned and a new adventure will help them find a key (one for each pony) until the final where the last key or the box will be used as the “only defence capable” story.
While its getting interesting, I feel the team are trying too much there no idea when this season is set. Is this before or after the Mirrorverse movie? Will Sunset Shimmer be making an appearance? Will the rumours that Trixie could be back and as part of the main group come true? I know, I know. We will have to wait and see.

There is an episode where the main six become superheroes. Who knows, may be they will explain more. Luna got jealous of Celestia and her jealousy turned her into Nightmare moon.

Yeah, Luna and Celestia are basically goddesses, and nothing good ever comes of someone powerful enough to love one of two celestial bodies losing control of her emotions.

Anyone think Pinkie has officially lost any sense of reality? She's been particularly oblivious in all three episodes so far this season.

Great episode. Loved the haunted house kind of idea. Seeing pinkie pie being silly was awesome. And looks like we got a mystery pony.

I saw the new episode and I loved it. I do wonder how the books lasted so long. Wouldn't the books have crumbled to dust when Twilight touched them? I thought the pony playing music was Luna until it was revealed to be Pinkie Pie. I bet the one we saw in the end was Luna.

I just chalk it up to equestrian physics, or an enchantment placed on the books by Celestia and Luna.

I suspected it was Pinkie as soon as I saw the shadow for the first time and knew it when they did the eye in the painting gag. While entertaining, this episode was predictable.
One thing I've noticed lately, newer episodes have a rewatchability issue. It's like after seeing an episode a few times, I need to be in a particular mood to want to watch it again even if it's been months since I've seen it. Like this is not an episode I'm going want to see anytime anywhere. It was funny the first time through, but I already know all the jokes and outside of them the episode didn't have much to it.
