The Owl and the Flashing Light

This is a story my grandfather told my mother and she told me. It's actually a long joke but a good one.
An owl lived in a tree overlooking a canyon and at the bottom of this canyon was a light that flashed on and off. The owl would spend his free time every night looking down into this canyon at the flashing light wondering what it was. He slept during the day, so he never saw what was at the bottom of the canyon except for the light.
One night the owl decided to fly down to see what the light was. He glided down into the canyon. He hit a nasty wind current, lost control, and smacked into the front of the building the light was on the roof on. He was out cold without realizing this.
A man came out of the building when he heard the owl hit the building. He saw the owl sprawled out in front of him and checked to see if he was still alive. He was, so the man, who happened to be a vet, took him inside to check him out.
The man checked over the owl to make sure the hit didn't cause any permanent damage. The owl was fine, just out. As he was cehcking, it noticed the owl suffered from tonsillitis, so he removed the owl's tonsils. He continued to check and noticed the owl also had inflamed hemorrhoids, so he removed the hemorrhoids too.
The owl came to and once he had the wherewithal to fly, the man opened the door so he could fly up back to his tree.
The next night the owl was sitting in his tree and looking down at the light still not knowing what it was.
Another owl landed on the branch next to him and looked down. "I wonder what that flashing light is down there," the second owl mused aloud.
The first owl turned to him. "I don't know, but when I went down see, I was knocked unconscious, and when I woke up I couldn't hoot worth a poop or poop worth a hoot."
