Since I decided to go see thus movie I figured I'd write a review on it. Warning to those who want to see this and haven't yet this will have spoilers so don't read if you don't want to get spoiled. Here we go.
First of all thinking that this might be the worst remake of all time I was kinda iffy about seeing it. But then I thought "Aw heck why not. Who knows it might be decent." Boy was I right. The story starts out with a nararator telling us of 2 kingdoms. The human kingdom (Where Aurora is from) and the fairy kingdom. Get this. Maleficent is a fairy. That's right. The one who put the curse on Aurora is a fairy. Interesting huh? Anyway it starts out with Maleficent very young. See she's kind of the head fairy if you will. Is that bad? Eh its okay. Anyway the way her and the king meet (Aurora's dad) is he comes as a boy to her kingdom which by the way is called Moors. He steals a jewel from her kingdom. They fall in love with each other. At 1 point the king of his kingdom (By the way his name is Stefan) tries to overthrow Moors. But Maleficent stops them. Stefan goes to see her and warns her the king might try to go after her. Interesting story by the way. Guess what? He makes her fall asleep and tries to kill her but can't. So what does he do? He cuts off her wings. By the way anyone know what the weakness of a fairy is? I do after seeing this movie. Its iron. Anyway that's why she hates humans. Later after Stefan takes over as king he has a daughter. That's when Maleficent decides to get revenge on him. How? The curse. The 3 good fairies are asked to take Aurora away and the guards are told to burn every spinning wheel in the kingdom (You already know this if you've seen sleeping beauty). Anyway the 3 good fairies turn into humans.... Oh wait. I forgot Maleficent's bird. That's right. That raven you see in "Sleeping Beauty" is her right hand bird. Since she can no longer fly he's her wings. How? She saves him from a hunter. She transforms him into a human. Anyway the 3 good fairies don't know how to take care of a baby so guess who has to help? Maleficent. Of course she has to stay hidden. Anyway Aurora grows up into a fine lady. At 1 point she sees Maleficent for the first time as a child. When she is almost 16 she goes near the border of Moors. Maleficent decides to let her in. At this point she finally gets to see Maleficent for the first time. Maleficent grows fond of the girl and decides she has made a terrible mistake. So she tries to revoke the curse on Aurora but since she made it to where it can only be reversed by true love's first kiss and no other power can reverse it it can't be done. Anyway she meets the prince and by now everyone thinks "We know what's gonna happen". *Buzzer* Wrong. Yes Maleficent and even her henchman thinks that this might be the 1 to give the "True Love's first kiss" but as the story goes on it happens. She returns to her kingdom, pricks her finger on the spindle, the prince goes in..... Wait. I'm talking about Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent takes the prince and brings him to Aurora to wake her up. The prince kisses her and she wakes up right? Sorry wrong again. The kiss wasn't the kiss of true love. Maleficent realizes this and cries. She reaches down and kisses Aurora on the head and what happens? She wakes up. Anyway I'm going to stop here. Because your just gonna have to watch the movie to see what happens next. Anyway I'm gonna point out some good points and bad points about this movie.
Good Points:
-Maleficent was her usual self and seeing that she was once a good fairy was awesome.
-The love interest between Stefan and Maleficent in the beginning was cute.
-It followed the story of "Sleeping Beauty" for awhile. Then the twist in the story.
-They kept the dragon in the movie.
-"Once upon a dream" was sang but at the end.
-Angelina Jolie was awesome as Maleficent.
-The good fairies were as I remembered them. I loved it when they got into a food fight with each other.
Bad Points:
-They made the 3 fairies seem like idiots that didn't know how to take care of a child. I wouldn't have minded so much if it were just that but they made them beyond stupid. I mean for crying out loud at 1 point Aurora almost falls off a cliff and who's there to save her? Maleficent.
-Having Stefan being the 1 to cut her wings off was very upsetting. She loved him.
-The dragon isn't Maleficent's second form. It was cool and all but I wanted to see her turn into her dragon form.
-The prince not being the 1 to wake her. Don't get me wrong seeing Maleficent having remorse for almost killing her was great but I wanted it to be like in "Sleeping Beauty".
-No "Once upon a dream" song sequence. Really Disney? This is supposed to be a remake of Sleeping Beauty why not have her sing it in the middle of the movie. Seriously Disney if your gonna make a remake at least have the courtesy of putting the song from the original movie in there.
So is it good? Is it bad? Its not perfect. But it isn't bad. If you like Angelina Jolie and want to see a different side to "Sleeping Beauty" then yeah go see this. If not then this isn't for you. I mean I liked it for the most part. Anyway this movie gets a 9/10. It would have gotten a better score from me if they would have ironed out the mistakes. But as I said you can see it if you want.
