One of the things that's bugged my about Friendship is Magic is they continue to put off giving the Cutie Mark Crusaders their cutie marks. We've now had a basic idea of their special talents for 73 episodes out of 91. And them being blank flanks has served its purpose. They've been teased for it to the point it doesn't matter anymore. We get how cutie marks work. We know what a pony must do to discover their special talent to earn their cutie mark. Just pull the trigger and give them their cutie marks already.
This bugs me in the same way long-running shounen anime bugs me. We're given a stated goal right from the start, but no matter what the protagonists accomplish, they're only going to reach the goal when the people making it are ready for it to end. It ruins the emotional investment in the journey because you know the writers are dangling the goal just outside of reach until the end. The same thing is happening here. I can't maintain my emotional investment in the CMC trying to get their cutie marks because they should have them by now, and don't only because the writers want to continue to string us along.
Anyone else think the writers have waited too long for this?

*raises hand* Yes. I was actually talking with someone else about why I wasn't that into FiM, and this came up as one of the reasons. I admit it's gotten to where I was skipping CMMC-centered episodes because I knew they were going to be the same old same old. Too bad, because I do like them all as characters -- they're not favorites, but they're likable.

I agree. Get to the point already! I see a scooter mark for Scootaloo, a wooden apple for Apple Bloom, and a bell with two music notes for Sweetie Belle. I would like to see an episode in which the CMC meet an adult pony with no cutie mark of their own. This pony is solid white with red eyes, an albino. the CMC freak out thinking they might be the same way, and Twilight trying to help, only add fuel to their panic by telling them about ponies with cutie marks the same color as their coats. This leads to even more panic until Luna explains that the condition is very rare, and since their hair color is different colors then their coats, they are fine. Shortly after, the CMC are rewarded with their cutie marks.
There is true albinism, which is solid white with white hair and red eyes, and color albinism, which is solid one color with the same color mane and tail with red eyes.
