...The Innocent." Stupid character limits.
Things are unraveling with the Legends of Dream Valley project. It’s looking less and less likely it will ever get animated because animators expect to be paid for their work and we don’t have that kind of money. Getting people to pitch in for basic instrumentation programs and microphones is worse than pulling teeth.
I’m starting think my best bet of getting this done is just package this stuff up and try to sell it to Hasbro. However, Hasbro has immediately rejected us twice probably on the grounds this is G1 and for some reason they hate G1 and will not touch anything related to it even though they sell merchandise with G1 ponies on it.
Anyway, I am looking at extreme measures. Perhaps the most extreme is to admit defeat and nix the idea this is a G1 reboot. Hasbro will not support it and I need their money or if nothing else permission so I can at least throw the bone that this can be added to professional portfolios to recruit talent. I will basically do what Faust did and take the G1 ponies and transplant them into new bodies.
I want some feedback on these changes to names and possibly designs as I suggest them. That includes whether you think Hasbro would bite given their current naming conventions.
Wind Whistler to Merriweather
Wind Whistler is my favorite pony of course (and I really want to see her animated again.) I like her color scheme and especially liked her personality in the cartoon series. She was the best realized character in the group with layers and complexities. She was brilliant, loyal, and brave but also sensitive and reserved about her feelings.
Anyway, I was looking in G3 ponies on My Little Wiki one time and came across G3 Merriweather. I figured if I ever renamed Wind Whistler, I like her name and symbol. Basically, I would take Wind Whistler and change her symbol to pink and baby blue umbrella with a baby blue handle and pink balls at the ends of the spines and baby blue raindrops and pink snowflakes would be falling on it. There, we have the spirit of Wind Whistler in a G3-esque pony and that should be 100% Hasbro approved.
Gusty to Gusty Autumns
I am going the Lyra Heartstrings and Trixie Lulamoon route here. Basically take Gusty and make her name longer. She has long been associated with autumn, so it makes perfect sense as a secondary name. I don’t know about design changes. They use her image a lot on retro pony merchandise so I don’t see why they could use it for other things.
Magic Star to Star Luck
The only peril I see for this is confusion with Starbuck, but who knows. Magic Star seemed to have a sixth sense when it can to magic and luck and collected magical items and lucky charm. The name would simply concentrate on the luck instead of magic. I don’t see any reason to change her design like Gusty.
Fizzy to Fizzy Pop
Do I really need to explain this? And please don’t change the design. We need more turquoise ponies.
North Star to Compass Rose
I personally like the idea of Compass Rose as a name for her. It sounds like the name a female protagonist in those old exploration novels would have. It gives a sense of being both delicate and adventurous. I could imagine her being the belle of the ball one night and running with a priceless artifact under her pith helmet while pigmy unicorns give chase and throw spears.
Paradise to Paradise Breeze
Making the name longer will hopefully please Hasbro.
Powder to Frost Crystal
While I like the idea of an icy pony, I thought Powder’s color scheme could use an overhaul. Kind of going with Ice Crystal’s coloring convention, Frost Crystal would be ice blue with white snowflakes as her symbol and white hair with a dark blue streak.
More to come
