The Earth of Equestria Nova is connected to many parallel earths. Species from these other worlds have settled here. These are basic information of some of the inhabitants and the worlds that come from.
“Dragon Earth” is one of the closest to its sun with an orbital of only around 342 days. Naturally, it is also one of the hottest with even polar temperatures rarely going below freezing. Its continents are covered by dense jungles, expansive savannahs, and harsh deserts. Reptiles rule the roost here, and the dragons are the top reptiles.
The dragons of Dragon Earth are actually not true dragons like those found on Equestria Earth. They are actually descended from monitor lizards. The reach an adult height of two meters or greater (not including the tail which can be more than a meter long) and can weight more than 150 kilograms. They have no wings and do not suffer from the same afflictions as true dragons like greed-fueled growth spurts. They are highly intelligent and very social.
Dragons are omnivorous. They mostly eat eggs and vegetable matter, but will also eat birds, small mammals, and other reptiles. They swallow gemstones, but as an aid for digestion. The stories of cannibalism are mostly unfounded with any confirmed cases being in extreme famine situations. Still, the practice of placing eggs with “foster species” raises some questions.
The coloration among male dragons varies wildly and is often brilliant. Females are duller in color with mostly tan, beige, and olive colorations. It is believed the male’s flash colors are both to attract a mate and distract predators. However, even young males are colorful which seems counterproductive in both cases.
The primary defense mechanism for dragons is their fire breath. They make fire because their diets produce a great deal of hydrogen and methane gas that is stored in their craw. They exhale this highly flammable gas and an organ in the roof of the mouth that can generate an electric spark ignites it. Juveniles can generate spurts of flame while adults can create prolonged streams. Juveniles are also prone to unintended spurts that are similar to sneezes which can be quite impressive during adolescence when their flame abilities mature.
Dragons have very sharp senses. Their eyesight is very keen, but more geared towards motion detection than determining shapes. They have very sensitive hearing and can even sense sources of heat. They often shoot out their tongues to taste the air as well as bring scents into to their nostrils.
On Hub Earth, dragons have adapted to the more temperate climate. They often hibernate during the winter. They are semi-endothermic and can keep their body temperature within a certain range, but still sun and shade themselves to keep their temperature at optimum levels.
