Hey guys! First off, I need to apologize for not being around for the last few...um, months? Yeah. Something possessed me to go get a crazy summer/fall internship that might actually help me move ahead in life, provided I survive it. It's been awesome, but my internet life is declining. Anyway, you guys deserve better than that in an admin, so I sincerely apologize. I came back the other day to find that Sunstar started a thread about moderators, which is a really good idea and made me wonder why we don't have any yet. That said, I'm currently thinking about how to set moderators up, and I'm gonna start discussing the idea with LM. I'm basically considering how to split the boards up. Some parts of the forum are more active than others, so I don't want to split up the mods so that one has to do all the work. Or, heck, we could just have the mods be able to moderate all the boards. Do you think a few universal moderators would be a good idea, or would it be better to specifically divide the work among mods? Also, anyone who wants to be considered as a candidate ought to either post here or shoot me a pm. I'm not gonna be around for the rest of the day (yay 10/possibly 12-hour shifts!), but I'll be checking in again tomorrow. Thanks guys, and sorry for ditching y'all. ^_^" Caelum

Best to devied the workload, we all know we live in differnt time zones and are one at differnt times. and also with RL things that can take up time. I would surgest 4 mods (2 Global mods for the whole board and 2 local mods who can keep an eye on sections of the board) This way if something happens when the global mods are away a local one can deal with the issue move or lock or something to help out untill a admin or global mod get on.
tis but a thought

I like that idea, Zero!
I volunteer for a mod position. I am happy to donate my time to the board. I am also on every day for a few minutes.

I volunteer also. I lurk a lot... I'm here a bit just don't have much to say. I'm not sure how to divide the workload though...

So, with Zero's input, here's what I'm thinking so far:
2 global moderators, who will be able to moderate the entire forum. 1 moderator for the General and Archives sections. 1 moderator for the Stories and Art sections.
In addition, I think it'd be a good idea for the General and Archives sections moderator to ALSO be able to help moderate the MLP Fanfiction board in the Stories section, seeing as it's one of the most active places on the forum. And maybe the Stories and Art moderator ought to be able to help moderate on the Friendship is Magic board. That way, our most active sections can have ALL the mods working on them.
As for how to choose mods, how do you guys feel about having a formal election-type thing?

I'm gonna be out for the rest of today and most of tomorrow, but I might be able to get on tomorrow evening. If not, the day after. In the meantime, everyone please feel free to keep discussing stuff. This isn't set in stone yet, after all. If you've got any random ideas or suggestions on how to do things, go ahead and suggest them!

A formal election sounds like a great method of selection. However, I think that it would be slightly more efficient to just have four global moderators rather than having a few who only have localized power. While I think that it is a great idea to have different people focusing their attention in different sections, I don't think that we need to deny full moderator powers to anyone who we would otherwise give limited moderator powers.
Basically what I am saying is that I like the current proposal for dividing the workload, but I think that the local moderators should have access to global moderator powers as well. Even if they never have to use them, they will always have the powers if they happen to be the only moderator on at the time.

The local moderators would be one with mores limited time on the site, so they would cover less sections.

Maybe mods can have full access everywhere but the mods decide who will 'govern' what?

The local mods will have mod powers in certain sections only.
