Great discussion, ponies! Yes, we definitely need a few mods who are around more frequently. I don't think time zones are really an issue . . . unless a mod does nothing but sitting around staring at the Lexicon all their waking hours, there's always going to be a chance that spam sits on the board a few hours instead of being insta-deleted. As far as selection goes, my thought is to open applications and anyone who is interested in being a mod can send one in. (Application details to be hammered out later, DON'T SEND ANYTHING YET. ) Not only will that give a big pool of mods to choose from, but also Caelum and I can keep all the other applications on file for if we need even more mods in the future. I think dedicated mods for some of the more specific or active forums is a good idea. The RP forum in particular moves very quickly and is hard to keep up with if you aren't a player in the RPs.

*snort* Zero, brainstorming is an important part of the thinking process. And an important part of brainstorming is to come up with as many ideas as possible, no matter how strange or stupid they sound, cuz you never know what'll end up being useful.
*forcibly yanks off duct tape and ignores the ensuing shrieks of pain*
I'm liking LM's idea of applications (especially since we could then keep those on file for future reference).
Time zones aren't really an issue; there really shouldn't be much harm done if something stays up for a few hours.
I'm also now thinking that the number of mods ought to be two, maybe three global moderators. Four would probably be too many if they're all global--too many cooks in the kitchen will spoil the soup, as they say.

(Bounces around like Pinkie Pie) ooh! ooh! ooh! I know! I know!
Why not let us ponies apply to moderate their favorite part of the board?

That could work will it be held like Mod Idol? each candidate steps up gives a brief intro about them selves and why they should be a mod
or like Mod Factor, where they have to prove they are good for the job (like setting up little what if senariios and how they would deal with it) and the admin/s vote if they want them to stay or not

I agree. We obviously want people in areas where they want to be. We might also want people in areas where they have experience of skills.
