I quote myself when I say that haters may hate as they see fit. I honestly thought that, from the first chapter, it was a novel take on the idea. I'd hate the story if they had a conspiracy involved that they just happened to discover when the princesses arrived.

Not having the Mane Six is a waste.
I've thought as a premise, it could be an au where the mirror leading to the EQG verse was instead to Tales, with Sunset passing herself off as a earth pony dating Ace. Two jocks together can find someone just as smug as themselves.

Oddly Dark, I've toyed with that idea myself, partly inspired by Twilight's line how "The Magic of Friendship(tm) doesn't just exist in Equestria, it's everywhere!". For whatever flaws EG has as a movie, I have to admit that I always felt that line was somewhat inspiring, cheesy as it sounds. Always thought it would be interesting to have Twilight land in the very heavy tech universe of Tales, at least with the mirror verse they had the excuse of being humans so Twilight's bafflement on a world of nothing but earth ponies (what do you mean the sun and moon move on their own!?) would be an interesting substitution for the whole turned human thing. And strangely, I could see Ace and SS getting along unsettling well, Starlight of course I hope would be over him by this point? Assuming the Mane 7 were the same vague age as the Mane six. Could also see Twilight thinking how Clover reminds of her a certain wall eyed pony back in Ponyville. . Also, you just know Twilight would say something like: Do what is it with your world and putting the word pony in things? Patch: And Canterlot, Ponyville, and Manehatten are the pinical of naming genus? And as much of a hypocritical as it makes me, I'd think it be interesting if the dream valley cartoon existed as the backstory/history of the Tales universe. Feel free to PM me or skype me for more.

True dat. And I have more G1 backstory for a hypothetical fic I've been moleing over for a bit. G1 ends in tragedy in an Population Bomb/Apocalyps Wow tragedy that leads into the magic going away.

Interesting points, bobdude! I never really considered that alternate movie, but it would have been great. And, darkabomination, the idea of G1-verse's magic collapsing tragically could work well, but again, I've never seen G1. There'd have to be some monster to blow up all of the tough Dream Valley creatures.

the original g1 cartoon is certainly worth watching Notes, plus a good majority of it is on youtube.

I'm aware of that! At present, I've only seen three, but they were not half-bad. I preferred Tales to it from those alone. I've got to watch it for sure.
Any suggestions on where to start? I've already seen Paradise Estate's four parts, Firefly's Adventure, and Woe is Me.

Same here Bob, I like Tales being G1's future after the magic's gone, leaving ponies to fend for themselves with Megan's books and bits of technology she knows. Plus since the ghost story Patch told is true. then dragons did exist in the past.
Plus there's probably a little magic left, ie Clover's implied psychic powers and the unicorns and alicorn.

It could certainly work, but I don't want to say for sure because I'd need to look into it myself.
And don't forget about the government. In the Princess Problems episode, they use a magical crown to find their long-lost daughter. And Patch's supernatural powers. I daresay the Tales ponies are over the rainbow from G1 ponies.

Always thought that the King/Queen came from the Isle of Pony, fits with the UK theme they had going on.

It definitely did. A TEA club, their MUMS existing in the comic, and having a MONARCHY. But there are also some American things in their culture, like PTV, burgers and cokes, the appearance of the place (albeit with more colors) and the other dialects. l80 It has me confused, to say the least.

Not helped that a planet shot shows them roughly sinking up to middle America isn't helping any.
In terms of countries, all we get is the generic Ponyland, Isle, and a tropical island named Tropical Island, so go figure.
Maybe there's other continents or countries with zebra or some such.

Zebras in the pony world? Well, it exists in FiM, so it could in Tales.
Actually, in Tales, Ponyland is a city. It took ages for me to grasp that because it sounds like a country name, but it is a town. I think that it's within a country called the Isle of Pony, and that Tropical Island is within the area, just not a part of 'Confederate' U.S. I've thought that Ponyland was on the coast because the ocean and water actually happen to have a lot of references in the show. I also don't remember a globe showing where they were, though there were about three globes that looked like our Earth on theirs.
