Bellstar looked at Annick, not sure how to respond. "If you mean, is it going to be dangerous, then yes," she finally said. "If this group are servants of Deathbolt, then they will no doubt be ruthless."

Annick said nothing and shrugged.
Well. There goes my holiday.
She sighed and opened up her sketchbook, waving her hand over a page to conjure up a little group of inky black sprites that circle-danced across the page as a means of amusing herself.

Battlefield watched as Annick began to sketch again, and just rolled his eyes for a third time. he wasn't too sure about her.

Sunstar looked pale as she listened. "We have to stop them and retrive the Heart, no mater what the cost. It is very important that the Heart be found." She forced herself to sound calm. "The Heart of Deathbolt?" Auora was suddenly interested, "isn't Deathbolt the crazy guy that tried to take over the word?" "Have you been listening?" Sunstar turned to her, "Deathbolt caused a lot of death. He almost claimed the entire world. It the the Guardian Starlight, a mere earthling, that delivered the fatal blow to Deathbolt. From my knowledge, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but Deathbolt believed himself above earthling kind. He captured earthlings by the hundreds and forced them to slave in brutal conditions in his mines." Sunstar explained. "Poetic justice." Auora said, "Could the Heart, say, kill someone?" "Mostly likely, if that is what whomever controls it wants." Sunstar answered, "We Guardians know the danger of allowing the Heart to remain free. It is why I must locate the Heart before anyone else does and take it away to Angel's Island where we Guardians will decide its fate." "So, anyone know just how powerful this Heart is?" Auora asked.

"As I've said," said Bellstar, "the Heart will give anyone who possesses it unlimited power. Only the Gods know what they could do. It all depends on what it's owner wants. And you are correct, Sunstar, Deathbolt enslaved and killed thousands of earthlings. He believed they were inferior to unicorns like himself."
Battlefield glared at Aurora. "What do you mean "poetic justice?"" he asked, his voice ice cold. "I'm half-earthling. I almost died fighting him."

'Poetic justice.' Annick repeated. 'This Death..whassisname enslaved earthl'ns, and d'n o' offed 'im? An earth'ln. That's poetic justice.'
She made her little ink sprites act out the scenario on the table, complete with a floating MWA HA HA HA HA.
' 'ow come every vill'ness git seems t'ave a pefectly fittin' name? Y'd think 'is parents would've thought'a that 'fore d'y named 'im.'

"He probably gave that name to himself," said Battlefield. "He was probably born with a name he didn't like, so he changed it to make himself sound more terryfing." He rolled his eyes as Annick started to sketch again. "Annick, you're a mystery wrapped in an enigma."

"Like I said, poetic Justice." Aurora planned out her actions in her head. First she would get the Heart by going on this quest, then she would return to Winthrop and teach a lesson in the meaning of no to certain adoption agencies. then she would hunt down and kill the ones responsible for killing her parents and destroying her home, and maybe, she would give the Heart to Sunstar... Nope, she wouldn't. She would then go after Sunstar and the Guardians. Oh yes, this was going to be fun... Sunstar had different thoughts going through her mind. Starlight had been her charge. the young earthling was home in her world where she would live until her time came to assume the mantle of the Guardianship. Starlight was excited about becoming a Guardian, unlike someone sitting to her right, Aurora... "You were lucky that I managed to convince Galaxy that the fight was ours too. I hate to think of what would have happened if we had arrived five minutes later then we did." Sunstar said, "I still can't believe Deathbolt survived a Strike. I mean, that's like, unheard of." "You were around back then?" Aurora asked, "that means you both would have to be over a 100 years old." "We've been around for a long time. I'm part dragon which means I could live close to a 1000 years." Sunstar explained to Aurora, "Battlefield is older then I am. his demon blood will allow him many years of life." "Was it as bad as history books say it was?" Aurora asked. "It was worse. Way worse." Sunstar answered. "My history book says that Deathbolt succeeded in capturing a Guardian and all but killing her. Was that you?" Aurora leaned in closer, fully interested. "I'll explain. We Guardians arrived in time to see Battlefield go down fighting. We decided at once to perform the Strike. Deathbolt managed to survive the attack. When we use the Strike, it leaves us weakened. I remember laying on the ground staring up at Deathbolt, then darkness. I woke up in a room attached to a strange machine. I was very weak. I could hear the sounds of fighting in the distance. Deathbolt came in and said it was time. Everything is fuzzy after that. I think I blacked out again. My next memory after that was waking up in my own bed. I asked what happened, but Starlight told me it was better that I didn't remember." Sunstar felt herself tremble, "Even now, 100 years later, I still tremble at the thought of what Deathbolt may have or may not have done to me." "My history book said that Deathbolt wanted a form far stronger then his current Unicorn form. May be He took your form, Sunstar. Dralicorns are rare, after all." Aurora said, "To some, Dralicorns are considered to be gods." "If that was his intent, Why did he take me? my father, Bloodstone, my uncle, Flamingstar, and Mage are all Drailicorns like me. I know he wouldn't have taken Bloodstone due to Bloodstone being scarred badly by Mage, but that doesn't explain why he wouldn't have taken Mage or Flamingstar instead." Sunstar asked.

"It was a mystery to all of us about why he decided to take you," said Battlefield. "I don't remember seeing him in dralicorn, but after that last battle I was knocking on death's door for the next few days. I was lucky that you came when you did. No one has ever come that close to killing me. And your right, I've never seen anyone ever shrug off a Strike like that before-except maybe Deathstar." He smiled a bit. "I can't wait until Starlight comes back. We sure as hell owe her a lot for what she did." He spoke to Aurora. "You see, Aurora, this is what being a Gaurdian means. It means defending the world and everyone you care about from those whou would destroy it, enslave it, or worse. You may hate it now, but I gurantee you that you'll be glad that the Flow choose you to be one, and granted you pwoers you'll likely to receive from it."
"Well, it seems Battlefield and Sunstar here have a vested intrest in acquiring the Heart," Bellstar observed. "Now, does anybody have any questions?"

"When do we leave?" Aurora asked, "I have no wish to become a Guardian." "Deathstar claims we missed him entirely, which we may have done. I was young and it was the first time I was a part of the Strike." Sunstar remembered, "I'm glad he is on our side now."

"So do I, Sunny. Deathstar once showed me the tunic he was wearing at the time. It still has singe marks on it." Battlefield gave Aurora an annoyed look, before turning to Bellstar. "Yeah, when do we get this show on the road?"
"I plan to have us leave the first thing tomorrow morning," Bellstar told them. "But first, we'll have some dinner tonight, and then get some rest." She then noticed it was getting dark outside. "But how about we have some light, hmm?" She lit her horn, and suddenly all the torches in the castle lit up. A small fire suddenly roared to life in the fireplace in one of the corners of the dining hall. "There, that's better."

Annick still said nothing, but the second the fire came to like, her eyes widened a little and she wasted no time in running over to the fireplace and plonking herself down in front of it, warming her bones.
It looked as if she was planning on staying there, too.

"Well, she's happy," Battlefield remarked, looking at Annick. He turned to Bellstar. "So what's for dinner?"
Bellstar smiled. "Anything you want. Just tell me and I'll create it for you."
